This rare Gruen is solid 18KT Gold from top to bottom (and quite heavy) including the stunningly rare and impressive Sun Ray dial.  The dial is signed Swiss under the 6 o’clock marker. The automatic movement is in immaculate overall condition and is marked Greun Watch Co. Precision, Seventeen (17) Jewels, Swiss, 480SS and GXC. The regulator is set dead center in the movement and the original gasket is still intact.  The screw back case is solid 18KT gold and in mint condition (there are no dents, scratches or case opener tool marks anywhere in sight.) The highly unusual shaped crown is marked with the Gruen symbol and is located at the 3 o’clock position. The lugs are machine turned and have a turtle shaped design and have no strap changing marks. This watch appears exactly as new and is in New Old Stock condition. It includes its original box, hang tags and instruction booklet. It was produced somewhere between 1955 and 1957 in very limited quantities and the price tag (still with the watch -- is $350.00 – figure that out in today’s currency!)  The case measures 35mm in diameter (not including the spectacular crown) and 40mm lug to lug.  The dial is the most stunning feature of this incredible piece.  It has a Sun Ray design (the only one of its kind I have ever seen) that is made of 18KT gold (precision machined) and signed Gruen (with their symbol) and Geneve under the 12 o’clock position and Autowind on top of the 6 o’clock position.  The applied gold hour markers are rectangular arrow shaped and at all 12 hour positions.  The solid black hour and minutes hands are the dauphine pitched style and the bright red sweeping seconds hand is a straight and sleek style. This dial is just beautiful and stunning when in the sunlight! The watch is fitted with a brand new and expensive 18mm Genuine Crocodile strap that is a dark brown color. The buckle is solid 18K gold. It has the original box, hang tags and instruction booklet. This rare piece is running excellently and keeping time. This is surely a piece of horological history and one of the rarest Gruen watches ever produced.  If you ever see another one of these please notify me immediately!
