         Watches 'n Such

(The Basics!)

(G-10) Pristine Mint—Sometimes called “New Old Stock.” Has all original tags, papers and sealed in the factory box. Never used and in absolutely new condition.

(G-9) Mint Plus—In the original factory box and looks unused.

(G-8) Mint—Slightly used; no marks or dents (appears factory new.)

(G-7) Near Mint—Faint wear marks and in completely original condition.

(G-6) Extra Fine—Very little use, and if repaired, original replacement parts have been used (crystal possibly has been replaced.)

(G-5) Fine—Dial should have only faint hairlines and no chips. The case, dial and movement are original. No large scratches or dents are evident, nor should the case plating be worn through.

(G-4) Average—No rust or chips on the dial but faint hairlines are present; the movement may have some replacement parts, but the case, dial and movement structure are still original.

(G-3) Fair—Well used piece with obvious signs of wear throughout. The case and dial may not even be original.

(G-2) Poor—Piece not working. Rust, cracks and dents are evident. Major service and replacement parts are needed.

(G-1) Scrap—Piece can be used for parts only. Beyond economical repair.

  • The information provided here is to give you a “ballpark” description of the grading system used for watches. Dealers and collectors may (and do) have different opinions and descriptions regarding the various grades.
